Welcome to Year 1 with Miss Houghton!


Below you will find some useful information about Year 1. 

Here is your classroom...




Your start time is 8:55am Via KS1 playground. 

Your finish time is 3:15pm Via KS1 playground. 

From 10th May 2021, Year One's PE day is a Wednesday and Forest School is a Tuesday.


Your PE day is a Wednesday, please come to school in your kit. 


Your kit should consist of a white t-shirt, black shorts or joggers and pumps or trainers. You can also wear a black hoodie or sweater to keep you warm outdoors.


Your Forest School day is a Tuesday. Please come to school in the correct clothes, with layers.

Please put your child's name in their jumpers/cardigans 



We are now doing The Daily Mile. The aim of The Daily Mile is to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our pupils... and staff! 


Year 1 are lucky enough to be participarting in forest school again this year on a Tuesday. Please make sure you bring layers of clothing to keep warm in the outdoors. You will need wellies and a coat. Click the link below for more information about the forest schooling.

Summer Overview




Please read the RWI books that are sent home with your children. They should be returned on a Wednesday and a new book will be given on a Friday.

Phonics homework is set weekly and is accessed through J2 under homework. 

Phonics videos are also available through the J2 homework tile on BGFL. Children should click the link and it will take them to the video where they should watch and join in. Videos are posted weekly. 



Weekly spellings are sent home on a Monday to practise our High Frequency and Common Exception words.

We will have a spelling quiz every Friday.

You could also practise your spellings on SpellingShed through interative games. 



Write your own story! What will your story be about? Who will be the characters? 


Practise writing sentences with capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

Can you use adjectives in your sentences?

Can you use conjunctions, such as 'and', 'but', 'so'?



Practise counting and writing numbers to 50, finding one more and one less of numbers and adding numbers within 20.

Practise your 2, 5 and 10 times tables. 

Numbots is a great app to practise your maths. We will update our Numbots display when you reach a new level!
