PE

PE Intent:

We aim to provide a PE curriculum that pupils, from Reception to Year 6, not only enjoy but that allows them to experience a range of activities which help them to develop their health, fitness and wellbeing. We intend to offer a high-quality physical education curriculum by delivering the Real PE scheme in school, that inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in their fundamental movement skills, in competitive sport and in  other activities. We aim to develop all 6 areas of the whole child; Cognitive, Creative, Social, Physical, Fitness and Personal skills.

It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way that supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

Pupils will leave the Federation aware of the requirements of a healthy lifestyle and a strong desire to take part in physical and sporting activities through individual and group participation, which may include children participating in active lessons outside of their regular PE lessons, incorporating moments within lessons whereby the children can be active.

All pupils will participate in Physical Education weekly; there will be clear areas to develop:

  • Increasing physical activity and enjoyment.
  • An awareness of how to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
  • Build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
  • Develop the main 6 areas; Cognitive, Creative, Social, Physical, Fitness and Personal.

PE in the EYFS

National Curriculum PE links specifically the Prime area ‘Physical Development’ and the Early Learning Goal ‘Gross Motor Skills’. The specific areas of learning provide children with a broad and balanced curriculum and with opportunities to strengthen the Prime Areas of learning (Personal, Social & Emotional, Physical Development and Communication & Language). Practitioners will stimulate children’s interests, play and learning with positive interaction and reflect on the three characteristics of effective teaching and learning. Jasmine – Real PE will be used to supplement learning for Gross Motor skills outside of a Continuous Provision Approach.

By the end of Reception, children will be expected to;

-Negotiate space and obstacles safely, with consideration for themselves and others

-Demonstrate strength, balance and coordination when playing

-Move energetically, such as running, jumping, dancing, hopping, skipping and climbing.
