There were no statutory assessments in 2021, due to the pandemic. The Multiplication Tables Check was the only optional assessment. 

Assessment in the Early Years Foundation Stage

On entry into reception all children will be assessed against the development matters.  This baseline assessment will then be used to plan the curriculum in order for children to achieve a good level of development.  Children are then routinely assessed throughout the year.

Phonics Screening test

In the summer term, children in Year one are assessed using the phonics screening test. This assesses each child's phonic knowledge and understanding – their ability to read words through 'sound building' (putting the individual sounds in a word together to build the word). A variety of real and nonsense words are used and the children are expected to read these. Children achieve a score within 40. Those children who do not achieve the set pass mark (this can vary from year to year) will complete the new screening test in year two.

Assessment in KS1 and KS2

Children in Years 1 to 6 are assessed routinely against the national curriculum objectives, with teachers recording their judgements using DC Pro. Teachers will use a range of evidence from the term and test results to decide whether the child is working at an emerging, expected or exceeding level. 

Children in years 2 and 6 are also assessed at the end of the year through national examinations called the SATs. From these tests, the children will receive a raw score and a scaled score.  These scores will then clarify if the child is working at the national expected standard.   These tests cover English reading, English grammar, punctuation and spelling and mathematics at KS1 and KS2. There will also be a KS2 science sampling test every other year.
