During our first lesson, children were introduced to the work of Sir Isaac Newton, identifying key facts about his life as well as his important scientific discovery for gravity. Children were then given the opportunity to investigate the weight and mass of different objects to explore Sir Isaac Newton's theory. Our next lesson, focused on air resistance, where children were given the opportunity to design a parachute to demonstrate a helpful effect of air resistance. Our third lesson focused on water resistance and friction. Children were asked to apply what they have learned about water resistance and stream lined shapes to create a boat that would travel the furthest distance. Finally, we completed our topic by creating a 'Pulley System', applying their knowledge gained from through-out the topic. Children were asked to design and make a simple pulley system, which would lift a load a metre from the ground.
