To start this unit, we explored the key components of blood, creating our own examples. Our next lesson focused on the functions of the lungs, so we created a model lung and then explained the journey oxygen makes from the point air is inhaled. During the next lesson, we completed a experiment to show how blood flow is affected when arteries are blocked. From this, children were asked to explain the importance of staying healthy as well as regular exercise. Our fourth lesson, focused on the circulatory system, labelling a scientific drawing and demonstrating the process physically. We then completed an investigation to emphasise which type of exercise has the most effect on our heart rate, recording these results in a table as well as a bar chart. To conclude this unit, children were provided with the information on the effects of smoking to emphasise how harmful this is.
