Special Educational Needs (SEN)
Children learn at different speeds and not all children learn in the same way. Many children need extra help of some kind during their time at school. When we feel that a child needs extra support at school and at home; we set up a programme of teaching and learning to meet that child’s individual needs. This is known as an Individual Education Plan or IEP. The IEP will include targets and teaching strategies which will focus on specific difficulties.
These IEPs are wrote in consultation with parents/carers and pupil. The pupil remains a part of his class but will receive extra support either in a small group or 1-2-1 depending on need. If we feel that the pupil is still not making progress then we call on the expert advice and support of our Special Educational Needs Support teams. All the way through this process the parent/carer is expected to play an active role. Children who do have an IEP are added to our SEN register whose needs and progress are monitored by the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator).
Hanbury’s Farm has an excellent reputation for working with children who need extra provision. We have supported children with learning, behavioural, emotional, social and physical needs. We were awarded with the Inclusion Quality Mark in Summer 2007 which proves our dedication to all children regardless of need.
